The Mercer County Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents to take precautions as hot and humid conditions continue across the Grand Lake Region.

EMA Director Chad Wilrath said people who must remain outdoors for an extended period should take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water and avoid overexertion.

Residents should also watch for symptoms of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone experiencing serious symptoms should move to a cooler location and seek medical attention when necessary.

Light-colored clothing and sunscreen are also recommended for those attending outdoor activities.

The reminder comes as several community events approach, including the I.C. Festival Friday and Saturday in Celina.

Parents and caregivers are also reminded to never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle, even for a short period of time.
