The Grand Lake Mariners have won 18 consecutive games, but head coach Mike Roberts says the team isn't paying attention to the number.

Roberts said he didn't even realize the streak had reached 18 games until it was announced following Sunday's game.

Instead, he credits the team's success to its daily approach.

"The team has made a lot of progress," Roberts said. "They love to practice, and then we go see what we can do in the game."

Roberts said what separates this year's club is the character of its players.

"They like each other. They're humble. They're interested in improving. They support each other whether they're playing or not playing," Roberts said. "We have a saying that everybody should be prepared on every pitch."

Roberts called the 2026 Mariners one of the special teams he has coached during his career, saying he hopes the players will look back years from now and remember the friendships they built while spending the summer in Celina.

Grand Lake returns to Montgomery Field on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Lima Locos.
