Pets Killed, Residents Displaced in Celina Mobile Home Fire

A Thursday afternoon fire damaged a mobile home on Touvelle Street in Celina, killing several pets and displacing the homeowner.

Celina Fire Chief Brian Davis said firefighters were dispatched at approximately 3:30 p.m. to 537 Touvelle Street, Lot 60, after neighbors reported smoke coming from the residence.

When crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and high heat throughout the home. Because it was unknown whether anyone was inside, firefighters entered the residence, extinguished a fire that originated in the kitchen, and conducted a primary search.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Several pets were inside the home when the fire occurred. Davis said one dog, two cats, a guinea pig, and an estimated 10 to 12 birds died in the fire. Firefighters, with assistance from bystanders, were able to rescue two dogs from the residence.

The home sustained significant smoke and heat damage. Davis said the homeowner will be displaced for the time being, although the residence is not believed to be a total loss.

Eight firefighters responded to the scene and remained there until approximately 7 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Celina Fire Department has requested assistance from the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office, which is expected to investigate the fire in the coming days.
