Ohio Jobless Claims Increase During Latest Reporting Week

Ohioans filed more initial unemployment claims during the latest reporting week.

According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, 6,184 initial unemployment claims were filed in Ohio during the week of Sunday, June 28, through Saturday, July 4. That is 1,839 more than the previous week.

ODJFS says approximately 966 of those initial claims have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to help prevent fraud.

The state also reported 42,132 continued unemployment claims, which was 147 fewer than the previous week. In all, Ohioans filed 48,316 unemployment claims during the week.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in May was 3.7 percent, compared to the national unemployment rate of 4.3 percent. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in May was 61.8 percent, matching the national rate.
