Ohio Masonic Leaders Discuss Freemasonry And Celina Lodge 241 On Spectrum

Representatives of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio and Celina Lodge 241 were featured on Spectrum to discuss the history, mission, and local impact of Freemasonry.

Guests included Shawn Johnson, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, George Moore, past master of Celina Lodge, and Scott Siegel, a new member of Celina Lodge 241.

Johnson shared his personal journey into Freemasonry, saying he became involved after returning from the Persian Gulf. He worked his way through several local and district leadership roles before eventually becoming Grand Master, a position that now places him in leadership over more than 50,000 Freemasons in Ohio.

Johnson said Freemasonry is open in Ohio to men who are at least 19 years old, believe in a higher power, and meet the standards of the fraternity. He also explained that Freemasonry brings together men from many different backgrounds, careers, faiths, and walks of life.

Moore said Freemasonry runs in his family, with his father serving as master of Celina Lodge in 1986. He said one of the lessons that stayed with him came from his father, who described fellow Masons as friends you simply have not met yet.

Moore said Celina Lodge typically meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month, with a meal at 6 p.m. followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. He said members can be involved as much as their schedules allow.

Siegel, who recently became a Mason, said he had been interested in the organization for many years after being inspired by his grandfather, who was also a Mason. Siegel said joining the fraternity has opened a new chapter in his life.

The guests also discussed the broader Masonic family, including groups such as the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
