Celina Man Charged After Incident Involving Police Officer

A Celina man is facing charges, including two felonies, after an incident involving a Celina police officer early Monday morning.

Jason D. Weaver, 36, has been charged in Mercer County Common Pleas Court with fourth-degree felony assault, fifth-degree felony obstructing official business, and first-degree misdemeanor resisting arrest.

According to an affidavit filed with the complaint, Celina Police Officer Matthew Kremer reported seeing a white Kia stopped at the intersection of West Livingston Street and North Sugar Street at approximately 1:38 AM on June 29. The affidavit states the vehicle later stopped next to Kremer’s cruiser, and the driver allegedly yelled obscenities and made a threatening comment.

Police say Weaver initially refused to exit the vehicle, failed to identify himself, and became aggressive while officers were speaking with him. The affidavit states that when Kremer attempted to place Weaver in handcuffs for obstructing official business, Weaver resisted, knocked the officer to the ground, and struck him in the face.

Deputies from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, and Weaver was taken into custody. Court documents also allege that a Celina police cruiser and duty flashlight were damaged during the arrest.

Weaver was transported to the Mercer County Detention Facility. The charges are accusations, and Weaver is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
