Mercer And Auglaize Counties Among Lowest In Ohio For May Unemployment

Mercer and Auglaize counties posted some of the lowest unemployment rates in Ohio for the month of May, according to figures released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Mercer County had the second lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.1 percent.

Auglaize County was close behind at 2.2 percent, tying Union County for the third lowest unemployment rate in Ohio.

Putnam County also ranked near the top, coming in at 2.3 percent, which tied Wyandot County for the fifth lowest rate in the state.

Van Wert County had the state’s ninth lowest unemployment rate in May at 2.5 percent. That tied Van Wert with Paulding, Wayne, Shelby, Preble and Logan counties.

Van Wert County’s rate was down from 2.7 percent in April and well below the 4.1 percent rate reported in May of 2025.

The statewide unemployment rate for May was 3.0 percent. Allen County matched the statewide average at 3.0 percent, while no surrounding counties were above the state average.
