St. Marys Council Approves Data Center Moratorium And Budget Supplementals

St. Marys City Council met Monday night and took action on several pieces of legislation, including a temporary moratorium on data centers within the city limits.

St. Marys Manager of Industrial and Community Development Mike Burkholder said council passed Ordinance 2026-7 on third reading. The ordinance relates to an agreement with Clemans Nelson and Associates for employee work relations.

Council also passed Emergency Resolution 2026-08, which establishes a 12-month moratorium on data centers in the city. Burkholder said the measure passed with one council member abstaining from the vote.

There were no second readings during the meeting.

Under new legislation, council passed Emergency Ordinance 2026-09, which deals with supplemental appropriations for the 2026 budget.

Council members also heard first reading of an ordinance that would rezone 0.437 acres of land along Wayne Street from residential to commercial. The rezoning is connected to plans for a housing duplex.
