Celina Council Approves Cooper Farms Rezoning, Introduces Assistant Fire Chief Position

CELINA, Ohio — The Celina City Council approved a zoning change for Cooper Farms and introduced legislation to create an assistant fire chief position during its regular meeting Monday evening.

The council unanimously approved the second reading of an ordinance rezoning recently acquired Cooper Farms property to better align with its intended use as a wholesale facility.

Michael Wehrkamp, legal director for Cooper Farms, told council members the company's plans for the parcel no longer matched its current zoning designation. The rezoning will ensure the property accurately reflects how it will be used.

Council members asked whether Cooper Farms anticipated additional development on the site. Company representatives said there are no other projects currently planned for the property.

Following discussion, the ordinance passed by a 5-0 vote.

In other business, council heard the first reading of an ordinance that would amend the city's pay ordinance to add an assistant fire chief position within the Celina Fire Department.

The proposal is intended to strengthen the department's leadership structure. Because it received only a first reading, the ordinance was not voted on and will return to council for additional consideration at a future meeting.

Council also approved the agenda and accepted the minutes from its June 8 meeting before moving into the evening's legislative business.

The next meeting of the Celina City Council will include further discussion on the proposed fire department leadership position and other pending city business.
