Ohio Initial Jobless Claims Drop, Continued Claims Increase

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has released updated unemployment claims data for the week of June 7th through June 13th.

Ohioans filed 5,572 initial unemployment claims during the week, which was 2,147 fewer than the previous week.

ODJFS says approximately 988 of those claims have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to make sure they are not fraudulent.

Continued unemployment claims increased during the same time period. Ohioans filed 43,673 continued unemployment claims last week, which was 2,600 more than the previous week.

The total number of unemployment claims filed in Ohio from June 7th through June 13th was 49,245.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in April was 3.9 percent, while the national unemployment rate was 4.3 percent. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in April was 61.9 percent, compared to the national rate of 61.8 percent.

ODJFS says job seekers can visit OhioMeansJobs.com or contact their local OhioMeansJobs Center for help finding and applying for jobs, taking career assessments, building resumes and practicing interviews.

Employers can also contact OhioMeansJobs for help finding candidates, screening resumes and learning about tax credits or training programs.

Unemployment claims can be filed online at unemployment.ohio.gov. Anyone who believes their identity was used to file a fraudulent unemployment claim should report it through the same website or call 833-658-0394.
