Reported Pump Failure At Minster Pool Sends 14 Juveniles To Area Hospitals

Multiple juveniles were transported to area hospitals Tuesday morning following a reported chlorine exposure incident at a pool in the Minster area.

According to public safety communications reported by HomeGrown Alerts, emergency crews were dispatched after several student athletes began experiencing coughing, difficulty breathing and other symptoms consistent with possible chlorine exposure.

Responding units reported a strong odor in the area, and the pool was evacuated as a precaution.

According to a review of radio traffic reported by HomeGrown Alerts, the incident was connected to a pump failure, which reportedly led to an elevated chlorine exposure situation.

A total of 14 juveniles were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Hospitals involved included Joint Township District Memorial Hospital and Wilson Health.

Mutual aid was requested from several agencies because of the number of patients. Responding agencies included Minster Area Life Squad, New Bremen EMS, Fort Loramie Rescue Squad, City of St. Marys Fire Department, and Minster Jackson Township Fire Department.

Parents were notified in real time during the incident.

No additional details on patient conditions have been released.

The Village of Minster Administration

This morning, the Minster Swimming Pool experienced a mechanical issue involving one of the facility’s pumps. Upon discovery of the malfunction, pool staff immediately followed established safety protocols and suspended operations while the issue was assessed.

As a precautionary measure, 14 members of the swim team were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation. Their well-being remains our primary concern, and we are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Maintenance personnel are actively working to diagnose and correct the pump issue. The pool will remain closed until repairs have been completed and all systems have been thoroughly inspected and determined to be operating safely.

The Village of Minster is cooperating with the appropriate agencies as the incident is reviewed. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents, swim team families, and pool patrons during this time. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Out of respect for the privacy of those involved, no additional information regarding individual medical evaluations will be released at this time.
