The Ohio State Highway Patrol says thousands of drivers were cited during a multi state safety belt enforcement campaign earlier this month.
The effort was part of the Six State Trooper Project and ran from Monday, May 18, through Monday, May 25.
In Ohio, troopers issued 2,832 citations for safety belt violations. Another 98 citations were issued for child safety seat violations.
The campaign also included the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and West Virginia State Police.
Across all six states, troopers issued 7,932 safety belt citations and 427 child safety seat citations.
The Six State Trooper Project is a multi state law enforcement partnership focused on highway safety, criminal patrol and information sharing.
