St. Marys City Council To Consider Data Center Moratorium, Gas Rate Opposition
St. Marys City Council will meet Tuesday, May 27th, at 6:30 PM in council chambers at the City Building.
Council is scheduled to hear a vacation of right of way request, along with reports from the city auditor, treasurer and director of public service and safety.
Under third readings, council will consider Resolution 2026 07, an emergency resolution opposing Enbridge Gas Ohio’s request to increase distribution rates. The resolution also requests that the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio deny the utility’s request.
Under second readings, council will consider Ordinance 2026 06, authorizing the mayor to enter into a partnership agreement with Auglaize County for the submission of the county’s 2026 Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program grant application.
New legislation includes Ordinance 2026 07, which would authorize an agreement with Clemans, Nelson and Associates for employee relations work.
Council will also consider Resolution 2026 08, which would impose a temporary 12 month moratorium on the establishment or conversion of buildings into data centers. The proposed moratorium would give the city administration and council time to review federal codes, Ohio laws and regulations, and city ordinances related to data center development.
