Parkway Board Highlights Music Department, New Hires and Levy Passage
Parkway School Superintendent Laura Young says the district’s latest board meeting included a focus on student music programs, new staff members and upcoming end of year dates.
Young said the district’s Parkway Points of Pride presentation highlighted the music department, with updates on band and choir programs at all levels. The presentation also included an interactive moment, with administrators, board members and audience members playing boomwhackers along to a song.
The district also introduced several recent hires. Leah Thompson was introduced as Parkway’s new technology assistant. Will Garlock was introduced as the head boys basketball coach for next school year. Mark Healy will serve as an elementary intervention specialist next year. Mackenzie Walls was also announced as the district’s new assistant treasurer and treasurer trainee, starting Monday.
Young also thanked the public for supporting the district’s levy.
The board reviewed graduation plans, with commencement set for this Sunday. The district also discussed the final day of school, which will be May 20th for students, with a two hour early dismissal.
Young said the board also talked about the district’s master plan, which is being developed with Garmann Miller, as Parkway continues planning future facility updates.
