The new playground at Waynesfield Veterans Memorial Park is closed until further notice after it was covered in mud.
According to a Facebook post from the Waynesfield Police Department, the playground opened less than two weeks ago and cost more than $150,000.
The department says nearly the entire playground area has been impacted, with large dirt piles, mud spread on the new equipment, and mud covering the playground flooring surface.
While the department noted that much of the dirt can likely be cleaned up, officials called the situation unacceptable. They said the time and resources needed to clean the playground will take away from other work in the park, including new installations, regular upkeep, and general village maintenance work involving water, sewer, streets, and electric utilities.
The playground will remain closed until further notice.
