ST. MARYS COUNCIL ADVANCES PAY ORDINANCES, PREPS 2026 BUDGET
St. Marys Mayor Joe Hurlburt provided an overview of a busy agenda at last night’s St. Marys City Council meeting, where members advanced five ordinances and one resolution to third reading.
Hurlburt said several of the measures dealt with wage and benefit updates for various city departments. Council moved forward ordinances setting pay and benefits for fire department employees not covered by collective bargaining, supervisory and non-represented city personnel, the police chief and other non-union police employees, and the director of public service and safety for 2026. Another ordinance advanced establishing pay rates and fringe benefits for city dispatchers represented by the Ohio Patrolman’s Benevolent Association.
Council also advanced a resolution authorizing the sale of surplus city property through online bidding. Hurlburt said the city typically uses the GovDeals website to auction off equipment it no longer needs.
Two items received first readings. The first was an emergency ordinance to set appropriations for the city’s 2026 operating budget, covering all expenses for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2026. The second was an ordinance authorizing the purchase of materials, equipment, and services for city departments—capital improvement items costing more than $500 and expected to last at least 5 years.
Both measures will move to second reading at the next council meeting.
Council’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 5:15 p.m. in council chambers.
Mayor Hurlburt closed his report by wishing residents a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year as 2025 comes to an end.
