Second Reading of Legislation on Traffic Code and General Offenses
Council members were presented with one of two pieces of legislation for its second reading, which aims to update city ordinances in line with changes made by the General Assembly regarding traffic code offenses and general offenses.
The legislation will proceed to its third reading on August 11th.
Second Reading and Public Hearing for Rezoning Request
The second piece of legislation presented for a second reading involved a rezoning request for a 1.532-acre parcel of land. The owner is requesting this tract be rezoned from R1 (single-family residence) to R5 (multifamily residence). A public hearing is scheduled.
A public hearing will be held on August 11th prior to the third reading of that piece of legislation.
Resolution on Fort Barbee Hotel Sale
A resolution was presented by Assistant Law Director Craig Noble to allow the city to close out or release the mortgage it holds on the Fort Barbee Hotel for $350,000, enabling its sale to an interested party. The hotel has experienced significant issues over the last few years.
The resolution was passed last night under suspension of the rules.
Scheduling of Electric Committee Meeting
An electric committee meeting was scheduled for August 4th at 5:15 PM at the city building, with AMP representatives attending to discuss a new green energy opportunity.
