          Mercer County Sheriff Doug Timmerman reports that his office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred this date May 10, 2025.  Mercer County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 3:00 PM of a traffic crash at the intersection of US Rte. 33 and Celina Mendon Road.

The investigation revealed that Eric Topp age 48 from Mendon, OH was driving a 2005 white Cadillac south bound on Celina Mendon Road.  A James R. Roell age 62 from Wallingford Kentucky was driving 2004 white Peterbilt semi-tractor and trailer, traveling eastbound on US Rte. 33.  It appears that Topp stopped at the stop sign for Celina Mendon Road, then pulled into the path of the semi-tractor and trailer.  Topp was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Mendon Fire Department, Rockford Fire Department, Celina EMS, and MCERV.      

The crash remains under investigation at this time and will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.  This would be the second fatal traffic crash in Mercer County for 2025.
