Minster Board of Education Overview- April 22, 2025

 

The Minster Board of Education met for their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening.

 

Donations

 

The Board voted to approve accepting the following donations:

  • $150 from the Community Backpack Program for negative lunch accounts.

  • $600 from Bruce Monnin for the football coaches account and the athletic department.

  • $500 from the Minster Civic Association for the Juggling Club

  • $200 from RF Woehrmyer for book fair gift cards for elementary teachers.

 

Board Recognition of Students

 

Superintendent’s Report

 

Superintendent Josh Meyer provided the Board an update on the state budgeting process and an update on the District’s Strategic Plan. Mr. Meyer’s full report can be found here: Superintendent's Report

 

K-6 Principal’s Report

 

Elementary Principal Mrs. Mandy Albers provided the elementary report. She recognized 6th grade student J.R. Homan for being named the 3rd quarter recipient of the Spirit Stick and recognized Wren Warbington, Veronica Schulze, Leo Brackman, Samantha Schmiesing, Gus Hinker, Lauren Hoying, Henry Oakes, John Gavit, Tripp Steele, Carter Homan, Katherine Nelson, Mara Clune, Jacob Knapke, Kennedy Maltinsky, Mary Sommer, Caleb McDermitt, Camden Piening, Isabel Homan, J.R. Homan and Jane Schmitmeyer for being named Humble and Kind Award winners for the third quarter. Mrs. Albers also shared Open House attendance numbers, provided an update on recently completed Kindergarten screening and updated the Board on the elementary state testing schedule.

7-12 Principal’s Report

 

7-12 Principal Mr. Austin Kaylor shared the Jr/Sr High School update with the Board. Mr. Kaylor recognized Ella Kerrigan, daughter of Pat and Amy Kerrigan, as the Valedictorian of the Minster HS Class of 2025 and Lexi Hanson, daughter of Joe and April Hanson, and Keri Heckman, daughter of Steve and Christa Heckman, as the Salutatorians of the Class of 2025. He also recognized the following students for being named Cats of the Month Olivia Blindauer, Julia Hoying, Colin Prenger, Kalli Bergman, Maria Niekamp and Keri Heckman. Mr. Kaylor updated the Board on the state testing schedule for grades 7-12. He also informed the Board that 62 students will graduate on Sunday, May 25.

Curriculum and Instruction

 

Music teacher Abby Brigadoi shared her ukulele unit with the Board. Mrs. Brigadoi obtained a grant to purchase ukuleles for her classroom and utilizes the ukuleles to perform play alongs and group activities, while teaching fine motor skills and cognitive development.

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

Treasurer Gina Selby provided the Board with her monthly report. Mrs. Selby shared real estate tax settlement information with the Board and the results of a property appraisal that was recently conducted. She also provided a financial report, budget performance overview, asked the Board to modify appropriations as presented, approved a Now and Then certificate, approved the Bureau of Workers Compensation Group rating for calendar year 2026 and approved the return of a temporary advance from the Recreation Fund to the General Fund.

 

Mrs. Selby also updated the Board on the state budgeting process and the impact of the proposed budget recently passed by the Ohio House of Representatives. Mrs. Selby outlined the steps that Minster has taken to be fiscally responsible and encouraged community members to reach out to their State Senators to support school funding policies that promote predictability and stability for Ohio’s public schools.

Superintendent’s Consent Agenda

 

New Business

 

In new business the Minster Board approved the following items:

 

  • Approved a one time transfer of $50,000 from the General Fund to the Severance Benefits fund.

  • Approved the first reading of a number of Board policies.

  • Approved the use of school facilities and school name for JH & HS Wrestling Club for the 2025-2026 school year.

 

The Board set May 19 at 7 PM in the Large Group Room as the time for their next monthly meeting.

 

Personnel Recommendations

 

The Board approved the following Personnel Recommendations:

  • Set administrator salaries for the 2025-2026 school year.

  • Offered Josh Clune, Asst. Principal/Athletic Director, a 3 year contract beginning August 1, 2025.

  • Offered Andy Roetgerman, Facilities/Transportation Director, a 2 year contract beginning July 1, 2025.

  • Offered Kaci Rose, School Psychologist & Special Education Coordinator, a 2 year contract.

  • Offered Carrie Rhoades a limited one year teaching contract for the 2025-2026 school year.

  • Accepted the resignation of Sarah Williams, 3rd grade teacher, effective at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Offered a limited one year contract to Jacqi Clark, cook’s helper.

  • Offered Kayla Belcher a supplemental contract for JH Asst. Girls Track.

  • Approved Robert Inskeep as a baseball volunteer.

Executive Session

 

The Board of Education entered into Executive Session to discuss the employment and compensation of a public employee and the purchase or sale of property.
