48 year old John McFarland, who worked with Jay County’s Emergency Medical Services and taught at a high school was arrested Thursday on drug charges, according to the Indiana State Police. Detectives with ISP’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force worked with the LaGrange Police Department and U.S. Homeland Security to investigate child sexual assault material over the course of several months. According to WANE-TV, During a search warrant at the house, investigators found narcotics, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. ISP said McFarland was at the scene during the search warrant and was arrested. Any direct connection to the child sexual assault material case is uncertain. The Jay County Commissioner President confirmed McFarland was put on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
McFarland faces the following preliminary charges:
• Possession of a Narcotic Drug – Level 5 Felony
• Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe or Needle – Level 6 Felony
• Theft – Level 6 Felony
• Official Misconduct – Level 6 Felony
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
• Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
