Mercer Health sent out a letter to patients this week concerning a data incident in April of 2024. According to the letter, the incident was identified by the Hospital's IT Department within limited devices in the network. An investigation was conducted with the assistance of a national cybersecurity firm. The letter, which was obtained by WCSM Radio, states
“The elements of personal information that may have been contained therein included, and potentially were not limited to, your: name, physical address, email address, phone number, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license/state ID number, medical information, health insurance information and payment information, including payment card and/or financial account information".
The letter added that there is no evidence that anyone's personal information has been or will be misused. Out of caution, the hospital has made identify theft protection available for patients available at no cost through IDX.
