61 year old Timothy Kiester of Berrien Springs, Michigan was sentenced to 90 days in jail this week by Van Wert Municipal Court Judge Jill Worthington on 2 second degree misdemeanor charges of vehicular manslaughter. The sentences will run concurrently. Kiester also had his license suspended for 2 years and was fined. The charges stemmed from a crash in October of last year on US 127 near the Hickory Sticks Golf Course. Kiester allegedly failed to maintain an assured clear distance and struck the rear of a vehicle driven 30 year old Zachary Wood of Convoy. The impact forced Wood's car into the path of a semi. Wood and his passenger, 29 year old Logan Elder of Van Wert were killed.
