State Patrol Investigating Serious Injury Crash on US 30 in Van
Wert County

Van Wert— The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two
vehicle, serious injury crash that occurred early this morning on US 30 at Mendon Road in
Van Wert County.

At approximately 0306 Hrs. a Ford Explorer police cruiser, operated by a Van Wert Police
Officer, was responding to an incident and was traveling northbound on Mendon Road at
US Route 30. As the Ford Explorer crossed the westbound lanes of US 30 it was struck by
a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Express van, driven by a single male occupant. After the
collision the vehicles continued off the roadway.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to Ohio Health-Van Wert for non life-
threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Express van was flown from the scene to
Parkview Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Van Wert Post was assisted on scene by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Van
Wert Fire Department, Samaritan Medical Transport, Hague’s Towing & Repair, and Jim
Schmidt Towing.

The westbound lanes of US 30 were temporarily closed but have since reopened.

The traffic crash remains under investigation.
