Parkinson’s Foundation Awards Grants in 40 States for Parkinson’s Community Programs

NEW YORK & MIAMI (August 20, 2024) – The Parkinson’s Foundation today announced the recipients of more than $1 million in community grants for Parkinson’s disease (PD) programs across the U.S. The Foundation invests in community programs that make an impact in local communities and help people live better with PD by providing support for health, wellness and educational needs. Joint Township District Memorial Hospital was awarded $15,000 for JTDMH Parkinson Support Group.

“Community grants help people with PD live better lives, today,” said Parkinson’s Foundation President and CEO John L. Lehr. “These investments reflect the Foundation’s continued commitment to meeting unmet needs in the Parkinson’s community.”

Community grants range from a minimum of $10,000 to a maximum of $25,000 per recipient. The 2024 grant cycle funds programs that educate and deliver exercise, reach those who are PD care partners and address mental health needs of people with PD. Selected organizations operate locally and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

“We are excited and grateful for the grant from the Parkinson Foundation to support the JTDMH Parkinson Support Group.  The support group is lead by the physical and speech therapy departments at Grand Lake Rehab,”  said Julie Jacobs, Executive Director of the JTD Hospital Foundation.  “It is a fun, interactive group whom are learning about Parkinson’s Disease and the resources needed to handle daily activities.  With this grant funding, we will be able to grow the program and allow additional opportunities to educate our communities on what is available to patients and family members facing Parkinson’s Disease and let them know they are not alone.”
