The following is a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office:

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that his office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred yesterday evening, August 18th, 2024.  Grey advised that a Mercer County deputy was patrolling the area of St Rte 49 and Koch Rd in Liberty Township when he drove up on a single vehicle crash at about 6:31 PM.   

The investigation revealed that a 2017 Jeep Sport SUV driven by 33 year old Jamie M. Teufel of Hamilton, Ohio was travelling southbound on St Rte 49, near Koch Rd, when she traveled left of center and off the side of the roadway for an unknown reason. Teufel then traveled through the east side ditch for several feet, before striking a culvert causing the vehicle to go airborne.  The vehicle continued southbound before striking a driveway entrance, causing the SUV to flip multiple times, coming to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle.  Lutheran Air was called to the scene and transported Teufel to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.  Teufel later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Chattanooga Fire Department, Celina EMS, and MCERV.    

This crash remains under investigation at this time and will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
