PROTESTS INVESTIGATION

AN INVESTIGATION INTO ACCUSATIONS OF POSSIBLE POLICE MISCONDUCT DURING PROTESTS IN DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS IN LATE MAY AND EARLY JUNE FOUND MANY OF THE COMPLAINTS WERE NOT SUPPORTED BY EVIDENCE, THOUGH THAT CONCLUSION IS PROBLEMATIC. THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH REPORTS THAT, OF THE 36 INCIDENTS INVESTIGATED BY THE BAKERHOSTETLER LAW FIRM, 22 INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN CONCLUDED. ONLY ONE OFFICER'S ACTIONS WERE FOUND TO BE IN VIOLATION OF DIVISION DIRECTIVES OR POLICY, BUT DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE, COLUMBUS MAYOR ANDREW GINTHER SAID THE INVESTIGATION INTO SOME COMPLAINTS WAS HINDERED BECAUSE COMPLAINANTS WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY OFFICERS, SOME OFFICERS WERE NOT COOPERATIVE AND OFFICERS' AFTER-ACTION REPORTS DID NOT CONTAIN COMPLETE DOCUMENTATION.
