MERGER APPROVED

A-T-&-T HAS WON APPROVAL FROM A FEDERAL COURT TO ACQUIRE TIME WARNER IN AN 85-BILLION-DOLLAR DEAL. ATTORNEYS FOR A-T-&-T ARGUED THAT THIS IS CONSIDERED A VERTICAL MERGER, A MERGER BETWEEN A MANUFACTURER AND A SUPPLIER.
A-T-&-T DISTRIBUTES CHANNELS BUT WANTED TO BUY TIME WARNER, WHICH IS CONSIDERED A CONTENT CREATOR. THE GOVERNMENT ARGUED AGAINST THE MERGER- SAYING IT WOULD CHANGE THE OVERALL MARKETPLACE. A JUDGE REJECTED THOSE ARGUMENTS. CRITICS SAY THE DEAL COULD GIVE A-T-&-T THE POWER TO CHARGE MORE FOR POPULAR TIME WARNER CHANNELS, SUCH AS H-B-O, T-B-S AND T-N-T.
